1 Dear IS Modena families, Newsletter n 5 - September Today our MYP (Middle Years Programme) Workshop for IS Modena parents will take place from 12:45 to 13:45 (English) and 14:00 to 15:00 (Italian) in the Auditorium. After school activities Clubs list and participants are being finalised, please contact the office with any questions. Denmark Day Last Tuesday we welcomed a group of 49 Diploma Programme students from Langkaer School in Denmark. They were visiting us for part of their CAS curriculum. They had worked in groups to plan a range of art activities, games, songs, drama and sport to share with our students. The visiting students were all very well mannered and really enjoyed working with our Grade 3 to 6 students and vice versa. We were lucky with the weather which allowed lots of activities to take place outside. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day, a special occasion which taught us more about Denmark, a country which is part of our school community. Mother Tongue Programme sessions for German, Portuguese and Spanish will start this week. Families involved have received a communication last week, introducing the Mother Tongue Programme and requesting feedback on participation of their child(ren). Participation slips are to be returned to the office by today. EARLY DISMISSAL THIS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2 ND AT 13:00 FOR ALL STUDENTS. BUS SERVICE WILL RUN REGULARLY AT 13:00. School activity starts at 8:30 We kindly remind you that school days start at 8:30 sharp. Which means the school activity will begin exactly at 8:30 and any late comers will be disrupting class. Please try to make an effort and come in before 8:30 am, children can be dropped off from 8:15 onwards. 2 Gent.me Famiglie IS Modena, Newsletter n 5 - September Oggi 28 settembre si terrà il Workshop MYP (Middle Years Programme) per genitori ISModena dalle 12:45 alle 13:45 (inglese) e 14:00-15:00 (italiano) nell Auditorium. Attività extra scolastiche : Oggi inizia la settimana di prova. Abbiamo inviato la lista dei partecipanti a tutte le famiglie venerdì, Vi preghiamo di contattare la segreteria per qualsiasi domanda. Denmark Day : Martedì scorso abbiamo ospitato 49 studenti che stanno frequentando il Diploma Programme presso la scuola IB Langkaer in Danimarca. Sono venuti in visita presso la ns. scuola come parte del loro curriculum CAS (Creatività, Attività, Servizio). Hanno lavorato in gruppi per preparare le svariate attività creative e artistiche, i giochi, le canzoni, le arti drammatiche nonché le attività sportive, da mettere in pratica con i ns. studenti I visitatori danesi hanno apprezzato moltissimo la giornata trascorsa insieme ai ns. studenti di Grades 3-6, e viceversa, e si sono dimostrati molto attenti ed educati. Il tempo è stato clemente e abbiamo usufruito degli spazi esterni per svariate delle attività. E stata una bellissima esperienza ed un occasione unica per conoscere di più un paese che fa parte della ns. comunità scolastica. Programmi madrelingua : le lezioni di tedesco, portoghese e spagnolo inizieranno questa settimana. Le famiglie interessate hanno ricevuto una comunicazione in merito la settimana scorsa, nella quale veniva presentato il programma di madrelingua e si richiedeva di confermare la partecipazione dei propri figli. I moduli di adesione vanno consegnati in segreteria entro oggi. USCITA ANTICIPATA VENERDI 2 OTTOBRE ALLE ORE 13:00 PER TUTTI GLI STUDENTI. IL SERVIZIO BUS FUNZIONERA REGOLARMENTE ALLE ORE 13:00. La scuola e le attività didattiche iniziano alle 8:30 Vi ricordiamo che le lezioni iniziano alle 8.30 in punto. Ciò significa che le attività didattiche della giornata iniziano proprio alle 8:30 e qualsiasi ritardatario si ritroverà ad interrompere inevitabilmente il lavoro della classe. Vi invitiamo a cercare di arrivare prima delle 8.30, vi ricordiamo che gli studenti possono arrivare dalle 8:15 in avanti. 3 HEALTH REGULATIONS UPDATE NORME SANITARIE ASL AGGIORNAMENTO In compliance with the updated Health regulations from AUSL (Local Health Authority), we kindly inform all parents that a medical certificate for school re-admittance after 5 days in-a-row of absence is no longer needed. Therefore children will be re-admitted in school automatically. In the case of infectious diseases, please speak with your doctor and follow his/her advice on when to readmit your child. Below you can find a list of the most common infectious diseases and their suggested quarantine period: Measles 5 days from the appearance of spots German measles 7 days from the appearance of spots Scarlet fever 2 days from the start of a course of antibiotics Chicken Pox 5 days from the appearance of spots *** The school absence form is always requested ******************************* In ottemperanza alle norme sanitarie aggiornate trasmesse dall'ausl, informiamo tutti i genitori che non è più necessario portare a scuola il certificato di riammissione scolastica in caso di assenza per più di 5 giorni di seguito. Quindi, i bambini verranno automaticamente riammessi a scuola. In caso di malattie infettive, vi preghiamo di parlare con il vostro medico curante e seguire i suoi consigli. We have a wide range of fun costumes to make for the Winter Spettacolo, involving harem pants, sparkles and fur! If you would like to help with making the costumes, please let me know via . Once I am aware of who would like to be involved, I will arrange a meeting after school where we can discuss a plan of action. There will not be a costume club for the children to attend, however there are many, many props in this year s production so they could join the props club. Dobbiamo realizzare molti costumi di scena divertenti per il nostro Winter Spettacolo, tra i quali pantaloni da harem, pellicce e lustrini! Se volete darci una mano, vi invitiamo a comunicarmelo via . Quando avrò idea di chi vorrebbe essere coinvolto, organizzerò un incontro dopo le lezioni dove possiamo discutere un piano d azione. Non avremo un club di costumi per gli studenti questa volta, tuttavia ci sono tantissimi materiali di scena da realizzare, quindi potranno frequentare il props club. 4 IMPORTANT INFORMATION Bus Service Bus routes are determined by the bus company who try to provide the most efficient route possible. Please be aware that your child can be on the bus for up to 1 hour each trip. As part of improving overall safety and efficiency a number of rules for the bus have been developed: Students should be ready for the bus a couple of minutes before their assigned pick-up time. Ensure shoes are clean. Parents are responsible for ensuring their child is on the bus in the morning. Parents must advise the bus company if their child is not taking the bus. The school is responsible for ensuring students get on the bus at the end of the school day. Please note that buses may leave from school any time from 15:15 to 15:20 in the afternoon. The school requires a note or from parents before 14:00 if they are intending to collect their child from school and transport is not required. Without notification students will be put on the bus. Students are not allowed to change bus routes for any reason. If there is an emergency, then the School Manager should be contacted and alternative arrangements will be made. Changes in the bus schedules may take place to accommodate new students. We hope you appreciate the bus company try their best to keep these to a minimum. Students must remain seated with their seatbelts fastened at all times while on the bus. Respectful behaviour on the buses is expected from all students. Should a child repeatedly misbehave on the bus, then the bus company and the school might agree to have the bus service suspended for that child for a couple of days. Security The safety and security of your children is extremely important to us. All parents, visitors, suppliers must sign in at the office when entering the school building and sign out when leaving. We ask all parents to use the outer parking lot and enter through the small gate. Please help us in ensuring that the small gate is closed at all times. The school has an evacuation procedure which will be used in the case of either fire or other security alert. Regular fire and earthquake drills take place throughout the school year. Celebrating student birthdays in school We welcome the celebration of birthdays in our school however, there are a few guidelines that need to be observed: a) We will admit into school grounds only nut free birthday cakes or pastries and they will have to be purchased goods and not homemade. b) You will have to inform the school office at least 3 days prior to the date you wish to bring the cake to school. Written communication via mail is preferable. c) To avoid disruption in class, students will be allowed to bring cakes and pastries onto school grounds ONLY on birthday occasions. Please refrain from giving your child/children any cakes/tarts/pies and pastries to be shared with classmates. The well being of our students is our upmost priority and due to the presence of various allergies in our community, students are not allowed to share food. OUR SCHOOL IMPLEMENTS A STRICT NUT-FREE POLICY No food containing any type of nuts or nut traces is allowed in the school building at any time. Please note: Nutella does contain nuts. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping everyone in our school healthy and safe. For more information about anaphylaxis and nut allergies: Snacks/Drinks: Please note that students may bring healthy snacks or fruit to enjoy during their breaks. Sweets, crisps and high sugar drinks (Coke, Sprite, Ice-Tea) are not allowed. No gum is permitted anywhere in the building or on the school grounds. Early Years students bring only fruit.

6 INFORMAZIONI IMPORTANTI Servizio bus I giri delle navette sono definiti dalla ditta del trasporto bus che cerca di fornire il percorso più efficiente possibile. Siate consapevoli che Vostro figlio può dover restare sul bus fino ad un ora per ogni viaggio. Nel tentativo di migliorare la sicurezza e l efficienza, sono state sviluppate alcune regole per l uso del bus: Gli studenti devono essere pronti per il bus un paio di minuti prima dell orario di raccolta a loro assegnato. Assicurarsi che le scarpe siano pulite. I genitori hanno la responsabilità di garantire che i figli prendano il pulmino al mattino. I Genitori devono informare la ditta del bus se il loro figlio non prenderà il bus. La scuola ha la responsabilità di assicurarsi che gli studenti salgano sul pulmino alla fine della giornata scolastica. I pulmini possono partire dalla scuola in qualsiasi momento tra le 15:15 e le 15:20. La scuola richiede un messaggio o una mail da parte dei genitori entro le 14:00 se intendono venire a prendere i bambini a scuola e se non richiedono il servizio. Salvo diversa comunicazione, i bambini saranno messi sul pulmino. Agli studenti non è permesso cambiare pulmino per alcun motivo. In caso di emergenza, allora deve essere contattata la School Manager e saranno apportate modifiche. Cambiamenti nell orario del bus possono essere fatti per accogliere nuovi studenti. Speriamo apprezziate lo sforzo della ditta del bus nel contenere i cambiamenti. Gli studenti devono restare seduti con le cinture allacciate per tutto il tempo che sono sul bus. Gli studenti devono avere un comportamento educato sul bus. Se uno studente dovesse ripetutamente comportarsi male sul bus, la ditta del trasporto e la scuola potrebbero concordare di sospendere il servizio bus per quel bambino per un paio di giorni. Sicurezza La sicurezza e l incolumità dei nostri bambini è estremamente importante. Tutti i genitori e i visitatori devono registrarsi in segreteria quando entrano a scuola e devono segnare l uscita quando escono. Chiediamo a tutti i genitori di usare il parcheggio esterno e di entrare dal cancellino. Vi chiediamo di assicurarvi che il cancellino sia sempre chiuso. La scuola ha una propria procedura di evacuazione in caso di incendio o di altro allarme di sicurezza. Prove di evacuazione anti-incendio o anti-sismiche vengono condotte regolarmente nel corso dell anno scolastico. Celebrare il compleanno degli studenti a scuola I festeggiamenti dei compleanni sono benaccetti nella nostra scuola, tuttavia ci sono alcune linee guida da seguire: a) Possiamo accettare a scuola solo torte o dolci senza frutta a guscio e devono essere acquistati e non fatti in casa. b) Dovrete informare la segreteria almeno 3 giorni prima della data in cui intendete portare la torta a scuola. Una comunicazione scritta è preferibile. c) Per evitare interruzioni nelle lezioni, agli studenti è permesso portare a scuola torte e dolci SOLO in occasione di compleanni. Vi invitiamo ad evitare di dare a vostro figlio torte/crostate/dolci da condividere con i compagni di classe. Il benessere dei nostri studenti è la nostra priorità assoluta e vista la presenza di varie allergie nella nostra comunità, agli studenti non è permesso condividere cibo. NELLA NOSTRA SCUOLA E IN VIGORE UN RIGOROSO DIVIETO DI CONSUMO DI FRUTTA A GUSCIO Nessun alimento contenente frutta a guscio o tracce di frutta a guscio è ammesso nell edificio scolastico in qualsiasi momento. NB: la Nutella contiene frutta a guscio. Ringraziamo per la cooperazione nel mantenere un ambiente sano e sicuro per tutti. Per maggiori informazioni sull anafilassi e l allergia alla frutta a guscio: Merende/bevande: si prega di notare che gli studenti possono portare merende sane o frutta da gustare durante le ricreazioni. Caramelle, patatine e bevande gassate (Cola, Sprite e Té Freddo) non sono consentiti. Non è permesso consumare gomme da masticare all interno e all esterno della scuola. Gli studenti delle Materne portano solo frutta.

8 REMINDERS PLEASE ENSURE ALL ITEMS ARE LABELLED WITH YOUR CHILD S NAME Except for the very young children, we expect the students to keep track of their own belongings. Please discuss this with them. If your child arrives home with clothing or something else that belongs to another student, please return it to school the next day. A lost property (Lost & Found Box) is located temporarily in the Medical Room, feel free to check it for missing items and please keep it tidy. Gli oggetti smarriti (Scatola degli Oggetti Smarriti) si trova temporaneamente nel locale infermeria, controllate liberamente e mantenetelo in ordine. PARKING AREA All parents must use the public parking area outside the school gate at all times. Please remember to lock your cars and please make sure you don t leave any personal belongings in the car. Internal parking area is reserved for staff only and the bus service. PARCHEGGIO ESTERNO Tutti i genitori devono utilizzare sempre il parcheggio all esterno del cancello. Ricordatevi di chiudere le portiere dell auto e non lasciate borse e borsette in macchina. Il parcheggio interno è riservato allo staff e ai bus scolastici.
