1 Newsletter n 16 - January Dear IS Modena families, Welcome back and Happy New Year! We hope you ve had enjoyable holidays and an amazing start to this new year! We have a bustling term ahead of us with numerous new activities and events which will enhance and stimulate our learning environment here at IS Modena. We hope you ve recharged your batteries and are ready to join us in our journey into 2015 with enthusiasm and energy! We would like to extend our warmest welcome to three new families joining us from the UK, Germany, and Italy. We re very pleased you chose to join our school community and we re looking forward to getting to know you and your children. Today we extend our warmest welcome to four new students: Kindergarten: Lorenzo V.; Grade 1: Riccardo V. and Lisa W.; Grade 6: Oliver B. After school clubs: this week the Good Afternoon Club and Italian Terza Media Math (G8) classes will resume regularly. By the end of this week the new list of after school clubs & activities for this term will be circulated to families and we will be offering the trial week starting from Monday, January 19 th. Should you wish your child to join the Good Afternoon clubs on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, please contact the school office, info@internationalschoolofmodena.it. Pick-up: Thank you to all the parents who set an example every day by waiting patiently for their chid(ren) in the Auditorium. As the school grows in numbers, parents need to make their effort in observing the few rules & policies set by the school. Among these, please remember to leave the school entrance clear during pick-up at 3 pm. Parents from Grades 1 to 11 wait for their children in the Auditorium. The entrance area is reserved to Kindergarten and Transition parents only. SPECIAL THANKS to the PTA for organizing the fantastic holiday gifts for the whole staff and for the ongoing support! Lastly, we are pleased to inform you that Ms. Nina Grandi had her baby girl on January 1 st. Both mom and little baby Elsa are doing well. Thank you for taking your time in reading the newsletter, we strongly believe communication with our community is a crucial aspect of IS Modena and your feedback promotes constant improvement! 2 Newsletter n 16 - January Gentili famiglie IS Modena, Bentornati e Buon Anno! Ci auguriamo abbiate trascorso delle piacevoli vacanze e che l inizio del 2015 sia stato fantastico! Davanti a noi abbiamo un trimestre animatissimo con tante nuove attività ed eventi che miglioreranno e stimoleranno l ambiente educativo ad IS Modena. Speriamo abbiate ricaricato le energie e che siate pronti ad unirvi a noi nel nostro viaggio nel nuovo anno con entusiasmo ed energia. Vogliamo dare il nostro più caloroso benvenuto a tre nuove famiglie che arrivano dall Inghilterra, Germania e Italia. Siamo molto felici che abbiate deciso di unirvi alla nostra comunità scolastica e non vediamo l ora di conoscere meglio voi e i vostri bambini. Oggi accogliamo a scuola quattro nuovi studenti: Kindergarten: Lorenzo V.; Grade 1: Lisa W. e Riccardo V.; Grade 6: Oliver B. After school clubs: questa settimana riprendono regolarmente il Good Afternoon Club e le lezioni di Matematica per la Terza Media (G8). Entro fine settimana faremo circolare le informazioni inerenti i club e attività dopo scuola per questo trimestre e la settimana di prova avrà inizio lunedì 19 gennaio. Ritiro: Grazie a tutti i genitori che tutti i giorni danno l esempio aspettando pazientemente i loro bambini in Auditorium. La scuola sta crescendo, i genitori devono allinearsi alle regole & policies della scuola. Tra queste, per favore ricordate di lasciare l ingresso della scuola libero durante il ritiro alle 15:00. I genitori da Grades 1 a 11 aspettano gli studenti nell Auditorium. L ingresso è riservato ai genitori di Kindergarten e Transition. Un ringraziamento speciale al nostro PTA per aver organizzato dei fantastici regali delle Feste per tutto lo staff e per il costante sostegno! Infine, siamo lieti di infromarvi che Ms. Nina Grandi ha dato alla luce la sua piccolina il primo gennaio 2015! Sia Ms. Nina che la piccola Elsa stanno bene. 3 Open Day on Saturday January 17 th from 9:00 to 15:00 Our next Open Day for prospective families is scheduled for Saturday, January 17 th. This will be a normal school day from 8:30-15:00, running a TUESDAY schedule, and there will be regular lunch and bus service on that day. This event is being publicized in the local newspapers (Gazzetta, Il Resto del Carlino, Prima Pagina and Corriere Bologna) and on Radio Bruno, as well as via external newsletter and Facebook. Your participation as currently enrolled parents is the best way to promote our school. Please consider joining us and a few of our students on that day to talk with some of the prospective parents who will be visiting the school! If you wish to volunteer and help with the tours please let us know by Wednesday 14 th by confirming via mail at office@internationalschoolofmodena.it or info@internationalschoolofmodena.it. Help us share the information in the community, the best marketing tool is your word of mouth!!! Open Day, Sabato 17 gennaio Dalle 9:00 alle 15:00 Il prossimo open day per famiglie interessate a scoprire la ns. realtà si terrà sabato 17 gennaio. Si tratta di un normale giorno di scuola, con lezioni dalle 8.30 alle con programmazione scolastica come un MARTEDI, e mensa e servizio bus regolarmente garantiti. 9 LIBRARY NEWS NEW POLICY ON LIBRARY FINES FOR OVERDUE/LOST BOOKS Please note our new policy on fines for overdue and lost library books that will be applicable from January 7th ISM students may borrow books from our libraries for up to two weeks. After this time they may renew the books if they wish to keep them for another two weeks. If the books become overdue the following fines will apply: 5 Euros for books returned between one and two weeks late 10 Euros for books returned over two weeks late or lost/damaged. This is the effective cost of purchasing a new book. While fines are owing, the students concerned will not be allowed to take further books out on loan. Fines will be notified to families and payable in the school office. NUOVA POLICY DELLA BIBLIOTECA SULLE SANZIONI PER LIBRI CONSEGNATI IN RITARDO/PERSI Vi informiamo che la nuova policy sulle sanzioni in caso di libri restituiti in ritardo e per i libri persi sarà in vigore a partire dal 7 gennaio Gli studenti ISM possono prendere in prestito libri dalla Biblioteca per due settimane. Oltre questo tempo, gli studenti possono rinnovare il prestito se desiderano tenere il libro per altre due settiumane. Se il libro viene restituito in ritardo, si applicheranno le seguenti sanzioni: 5 euro per i libri restituiti tra una e due settimane in ritardo 10 euro per i libri restituiti oltre 2 settimane in ritardo o per I libri danneggiati/persi. Questo è il costo effettivo per acquistare nuovamente un nuovo libro. Finchè non verrà pagata la sanzione, gli studenti interessati non potranno prendere altri libri in prestito. Le sanzioni saranno notificate ai genitori e saranno pagabili in segreteria. 10 REMINDERS School activity starts at 8:30! We kindly remind you that school days start at 8:30 sharp. Which means the school activity will begin exactly at 8:30 and any late comers will be disrupting class. Please try to make an effort and come in before 8:30 am, children can be dropped off from 8:10 onwards. L attività accademica inizia alle 8:30! Vi ricordiamo che le lezioni iniziano alle 8.30 in punto. Ciò significa che le attività didattiche della giornata iniziano proprio alle 8:30 e qualsiasi ritardatario si ritroverà ad interrompere inevitabilmente il lavoro della classe. Vi invitiamo a cercare di arrivare prima delle 8.30, vi ricordiamo che gli studenti possono arrivare dalle 8:10 in avanti. WINTER SEASON Please make sure students have winter coats for outdoor breaks & activities. STAGIONE INVERNALE Assicuratevi che gli studenti siano muniti di giacche e giacconi invernali per le ricreazioni all aria aperta. PARKING AREA All parents must use the public parking area outside the school gate at all times. Please remember to lock your cars and please make sure you don t leave any personal belongings in the car. Internal parking area is reserved for staff only and the bus service. PARCHEGGIO ESTERNO Tutti i genitori devono utilizzare sempre il parcheggio all esterno del cancello. Ricordatevi di chiudere le portiere dell auto e non lasciate borse e borsette in macchina. Il parcheggio interno è riservato allo staff e ai bus scolastici.
