3 Grammar focus (Grammatica) All si usa sia nel singolare che nel plurale, e il suo numero (plurale/singolare) dipende solo se si riferisce ai sostantivi numerabili oppure non numerabili. E.g.) All the girls in the class are intelligent. (Tutte le ragazze della nostra classe sono intelligenti.) girl è un sostantivo numerabile, e in questa frase, All rappresenta plurale. E.g.) All the water is gone. (Tutta l acqua è andata.) water è un sostantivo non numerabile, e in questa frase, All rappresenta singolare. Both + Adj./Noun + and + Adj./Noun significa the two considered together. Ed è sempre al plurale. E.g.)Both the movie and the play were good. (Sia il film che lo spettacolo erano belli.) Both (of) + determiner + A(plural noun) means the two of the As. There s no difference in meaning though BOTH OF is more common in the U.S. E.g.)Both of my sisters are rich. (Entrambe le mie sorelle sono ricche.) Usiamo anche both + other verbs e verbi modali (can, should, would) + both + verb E.g.)My parents both work in the same company. (I miei genitori lavorano per la stessa azienda.) My parents can both speak English fluently. (I miei genitori sanno parlare l inglese fluentemente.) 3
4 Usiamo la parola each quando vogliamo sottolineare un membro del gruppo. Potrebbe essere seguito da of + pronome oggetto diretto (per esempio you, them etc.) oppure da un sostantivo con un determinante (like the, this my, your). E.g.) Each student has a book. (Ogni student ha un libro.) The principal gave a medal to each of the students. (Il direttore ha dato una medaglia a ogni studente.) Each può essere utilizzato anche come un pronome e richiede un verbo al singolare. E.g.) Each of the rooms has a TV. (Ogni camera ha un televisore.) 4
5 Speaking (Parlare) 1) I have four daughters. They all have a car. (Ho quattro figlie. Ognuna ha la sua macchina.) 2) All 50 students took the test.
